Carbon Footprint and CBAM Compliance in Tunisia

Overview

A carbon footprint in Tunisia is now something European customers ask exporters for directly, since the EU CBAM (Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism, MACF in French) entered its definitive phase on 1 January 2026. AHEC prepares your GHG inventory (scopes 1, 2 and 3), product carbon footprints and the emissions data your EU customers need for their CBAM declarations, then your decarbonisation plan and ESG reporting.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is CBAM and who is affected in Tunisia?

CBAM makes EU importers pay for the carbon embedded in certain goods: cement, fertilisers, iron and steel, aluminium, hydrogen and electricity. Tunisian exporters of these goods need to give their customers reliable emissions data.

What is the difference between a carbon footprint and a CBAM declaration?

A carbon footprint covers all of a company’s emissions (scopes 1, 2 and 3). A CBAM declaration covers the emissions embedded in each product exported to the EU. The carbon footprint provides the data the CBAM figures are built on.

Is ESG reporting mandatory in Tunisia?

For listed companies, the Tunis Stock Exchange has published an ESG reporting guide. For other companies, reporting is mainly requested by banks, lenders and European customers.
